📈 Trend: something beyond price movement

📈 Trend: something beyond price movement

Most technical analysis books define the trend using concepts such as higher highs and higher lows, moving averages, trendlines or Dow theory. But these are only the effects of the trend, not the trend itself. In my view, the trend is not price movement; the trend is the migration of value and capital. 💡

Imagine the market as a city; capital is the city's people and price is merely the street signs. If people migrate from the north of the city to the south, the signs do not change immediately, but sooner or later the face of the city changes. In financial markets, too, capital moves first and then price reflects this shift. 📊

In fact, a trend is the result of a sustained imbalance between supply and demand. As long as buyers or sellers have a noticeable advantage, the market moves in one direction. Each upward wave consumes part of the supply and each downward wave eliminates part of the demand. That is why a trend is like a fire that consumes its own fuel; the less fuel remains, the more the trend's energy declines. 🔥

The important point is that a trend, like a living being, has a lifespan. It is born, grows, reaches maturity, grows old and eventually dies. Price may still set new highs, but if the flow of incoming capital and the market's energy have declined, that trend has in fact entered its old age. ⏳

On the other hand, the market has memory. Millions of traders who have bought or sold within a price range create a collective memory. This memory later appears in the form of support, resistance, fear or greed. Therefore, the trend does not depend only on the future; the past also plays a fundamental role in shaping it. 🧠

In my view, great traders, before looking at the chart, pay attention to capital flows, liquidity, monetary policies, interest rates, market sentiment and the behavior of big players. The chart is only a shadow of these realities, not reality itself. 🎯

Finally, if I were to define the trend in one sentence, I would say:

“The trend is the gradual process of transferring belief, capital and risk among market participants, which ultimately shows itself as directional price movement.”

Therefore, price is only the shadow of the trend; but the trend is the hidden current that forms before price moves. Any trader who can understand this current no longer sees just the chart; they see the logic and force that set the chart in motion. 🚀
