Michael Saylor's contradictions under the microscope of logic and economics

Michael Saylor's recent statements, rather than being a logical defense, reveal a series of conceptual contradictions and absolutist slogans. The most important flaw is the shifting of the topic; instead of answering the question about Strategy selling Bitcoin, he emphasizes that he personally has never sold his Bitcoin. While data indicates multiple Bitcoin sales by the company in 2026, this deflection is an example of shifting the playing field and moving away from the core question.

The famous slogan «Never Sell Your Bitcoin» also contradicts the company's practical behavior. If selling under conditions such as capital management, liquidity provision, or balance sheet control is a logical action, then the phrase «never sell» is not a universal economic principle, but rather a promotional slogan. In fact, the more accurate narrative is, «Do not sell until financial conditions require it.»

Another contradiction is the use of a double standard; retail investors are encouraged to permanently hold Bitcoin, while selling under special circumstances is presented as acceptable for the company. If selling is a wrong action, it must be wrong for everyone, and if it is sometimes logical, this logic must apply to everyone.

Although legally, Michael Saylor and Strategy are two independent entities, from an economic and corporate governance perspective, this separation is not so simple. He is the founder, chairman of the board, and the main face of the company, and key investment decisions are tied to his name. Therefore, it is natural for the market to consider Strategy's performance as a reflection of Saylor's views.

The company's practical behavior also shows that even the biggest Bitcoin bull cannot ignore the principles of capital management. Selling a portion of assets highlights the importance of liquidity, cost of capital, debt, and balance sheet management; an issue that is incompatible with the absolute slogan «never sell.»

On the other hand, solely emphasizing «faith in Bitcoin» without mentioning multi-billion dollar debt, convertible notes, preferred stock, and the company's financial requirements presents an incomplete picture of reality. Also, relying on Saylor's personal behavior to calm investors is a form of reliance on individual credibility, while his financial resources and access to capital markets are not comparable to the conditions of an ordinary investor.

From a modern financial perspective, no asset is subject to the absolute rule of «never sell.» Principles such as risk management, portfolio rebalancing, drawdown control, liquidity management, and position sizing all emphasize dynamic, condition-dependent decision-making rather than absolute propositions.

Ultimately, the sale of Bitcoin by Strategy does not necessarily mean the loss of this company's belief in Bitcoin and can stem from financial needs and capital structure optimization. However, these sales show that there is a meaningful gap between the promotional narrative of «perpetual accumulation» and actual behavior; a gap that questions the credibility of the «Never Sell» slogan as a scientific and economic principle.
